Sprouts have a nutritional advantage because the sprouting process enhances their nutritional content and digestibility. Fenugreek seeds, which are actually legumes, sprout when they're soaked in warm water. They make a nutritious addition to salads, soups and other meals. A typical serving is 1 to 2 cups depending on the meal. Fenugreek sprouts contain various nutrients but are particularly rich in fibre, protein and iron.

Fenugreek from the Orient is considered a herb and can also make herb tea that dissolves mucous. Sprouts do the same thing as well as providing other natural enzymes and nutrients. The Fenugreek seed can be sprouted. Fenugreek can also be made into a tea or taken in capsule form and is a herb.

How to sprout Fenugreek Seeds

Easy sprouting directions (jar method):

SOAK- Put 1 to 3 Tbsp. Seed in a wide mouth jar. Cover with mesh and secure with a rubber band. Add water, swirl, and drain. Add 1 cup cool water and soak for 4 to 8 hours. Drain well.

RINSE - Twice a day, refill jar with cool water, swirl, and drain. Invert jar and prop at an angle in a sink or bowl.

ENJOY - Ready to eat in 3 to 6 days. Refrigerate to store. (Sprouts can be refrigerated for up to two weeks in a sealed container. (Sprouts store best when they are fairly dry- do not store immediately after rinsing.)

Easy directions for growing Fenugreek shoots (tray method):

SOAK- Cover the bottom of the sprouting tray with one single layer of seed. Place the tray and seeds in a dish of water and soak for 4 to 8 hours. (Alternatively, once you've measured your seeds in the tray, you can put the seeds in a bowl, fill the bowl with water, and soak for 4 to 8 hours.) Drain well.

RINSE - Twice a day, rinse the seeds. Either rinse under a tap of running water or use a spray bottle to mist well. Tip the tray to the side to drain the well.

ENJOY - Ready to eat in 10 to 12 days. Refrigerate to store. Sprouts can be refrigerated for up to two weeks in a sealed container. (Sprouts store best when they are fairly dry- do not store immediately after rinsing.)

Alternative uses that I enjoy! I do the same with my Broccoli seed!

Well, I only sprouted one batch and they were wonderful! [I have sprouted them before; regularly!!. ] * But I decided to sprinkle them on specially prepared soil and vermiculite in flat Hydroponic trays, [inside my home] ,that was moistened regularly and let them take root; which they did very quickly. Then harvested the green tops and stems with scissors. The Fenugreek leaves are particularly nourishing [look it up on Wikipedia] and sprinkled over any Asian inspired dish or Soup, is very satisfying. [cooked or fresh] p.s. I do this with all my seeds; except Basil and Coriander; which require deeper soil than the trays.
