CUCUMBER Assorted - 4 Packs - Total 55 Seeds

4 Varieties, 4 Separate packets with sowing instructions

This is a great value purchase of multiple POPULAR Heirloom Cucumber varieties.

You will receive 10-15 seeds of each of the following variety in a separate pack along with prorogation notes.

1.Cucumber POINSETT (15 Seeds) (V-425): CUCUMBER ‘Poinsett’ was released in 1976 by Dr. Munger of Cornell. One of the best slicing cucumbers for salads. Longer, blocky straight cucumbers that are perfect for the market. 6-8" long cucumbers are born on very disease-resistant vines. Resistant to downy mildew, powdery mildew, scab, angular leaf spot and anthracnose.

2.Cucumber REDLANDS LONG WHITE (10 Seeds) (V-427): This Australian bred variety is quite difficult to find nowadays. It has good partial resistance to powdery mildew, matures in 8 - 9 weeks and has blocky ends. Redlands Long White has a great, 'old fashioned' cucumber taste not commonly found in many cucumbers. The fruit grows to 18cm in length and around 6 cm in diameter. They are creamy white in colour and store well.

3.Cucumber RICHMOND GREEN APPLE (20 Seeds) (V-428): Cucumber Richmond Green is an open-pollinated variety. What a refreshing and juicy, lemon-shaped and has proud Australian heritage! This hard-to-find heirloom cucumber. Beautiful lime green, they get slightly larger than lemons with a sweet mild flavour that really satisfies on a hot summer day. Garden friendly plants are fairly compact in growth habit.

4.Cucumber SPACE MASTER (10 Seeds) (V-429): The Spacemaster cucumber gets its name for that very reason ... It's the perfect cucumber variety for gardeners that want to grow cucumbers in limited space. The plant has short vines, it is an extremely compact cucumber plant and produces excellent yields of delicious green cucumbers. 60 days to maturity. High yielding compact bush-type cucumber with vines less than 1m in length. Highly recommended for gardens with limited space, it is also suitable for container growing. Pick young fruits for pickling or grow on for delicious crunchy slicing cucumbers.

Care and Growing Instructions

Cucumber requires warm, well-drained soil high infertility, with a pH of 6–6.8. Consistent, adequate irrigation is needed to produce an abundant crop. Cucumbers are very sensitive to cold. Make sure both soil and air temperatures have warmed prior to planting. Using plastic mulch and row covers will greatly enhance the vigour and potential yields of cucumbers by providing warmth and insect protection.

In frost areas, sow undercover in seed trays in early spring. Plant out after last frosts. Sow indoors in 16-cell plug trays about 5-6mm deep, 1–2 seeds/cell, 3–4 weeks before transplanting. Keep the temperature above 21°C days and 16°C night with a heating pad underneath plug trays. Transplant 30cm apart. Do not disturb roots when transplanting.

In frost-free areas sow directly into the soil in early spring. However, wait until the soil is warm, at least 21°C. Cucumber seeds will not germinate at a soil temperature below 14°C. Sow 2 seeds per 30cm.

Spacing

Single Plants: 60cm each way (minimum)

Rows: 60cm with 60cm row gap (minimum)

Support plants well so they can climb upwards, even when the cucumbers get large. This also protects the cucumbers from slugs. Occasionally a plant can produce very bitter cucumbers so always test a bit before serving to others!

When flowers start forming, feed with slow release potassium-rich organic fertilizer. The fortnightly liquid feed from mid-summer.

Once fruit bearing begins, pick daily. Cut the cucumbers off the plant when they are still quite young, otherwise, the skin becomes hard and will need peeling. More cucumbers will then be produced.

Propagation notes will be supplied with a seed packet.
