The standards display a lighter shade of moorish blue, while the falls deepen to a richer, more saturated moorish blue, creating a refined bitone effect. A clean white beard at the centre of each fall provides a crisp, luminous contrast against the intense blue tones. Standing at approximately 104 cm (41 inches), this is a particularly tall variety in the tall bearded iris class, making it a commanding presence at the back of borders and garden beds. Hybridised by Jack Boushay and introduced through J. and J. Iris in 1972, Praise The Lord was bred from the distinguished parentage of Sterling Silver and Allegiance. The variety earned an Honourable Mention in 1973, a Judges' Choice in 1974, an Award of Merit in 1975, and Favourite Guest in 1976, reflecting its consistent quality and appeal among iris growers and judges alike.

Product Highlights

• Pack of 1 premium rhizome

• Flower colour: deep moorish blue bitone with a white beard

• Bloom time: midseason to late (late spring in Australian gardens)

• Height: approximately 104 cm (41 inches) at maturity, a particularly tall variety

• Award-winning variety: HM 1973, Judges' Choice 1974, AM 1975 (American Iris Society)

• Outstanding stature for the back of borders and garden beds

• Drought tolerant and frost hardy once established

Growing Guide

Plant the rhizome in full sun and free-draining soil, with the top of the rhizome at soil level or just exposed. Space rhizomes 30 to 45 cm apart to ensure good air circulation. Given the tall growth habit of this variety, a position sheltered from strong winds is recommended to protect the flower stalks. Avoid planting too deeply and do not cover the rhizome with heavy mulch, as trapped moisture can encourage rot. Work some lime or dolomite into acidic soils before planting. Water in after planting to settle the roots, then allow the soil to dry between waterings once established. Every three to four years, divide congested clumps after flowering by lifting the rhizome, discarding the old central portion, and replanting the healthy outer fans.
