Sweet tasty, and extremely nutritious root vegetable. The foliage is also highly regarded for taste and high in iron. The top growth can be eaten as chard or spinach. This is most widely used variety for both baby leaf and roots. Typical medium green tops with tinges of red can be cut for baby leaf mix in 30 days. Beetroot Detroit Dark Red is resistant to downy mildew. It grows for most of the year in most regions and is great for salads and dinners.
Beetroots are remarkably easy to grow and can be grown across a wide range of climates. It prefers moist, sunny conditions with not excessive heat. It is sown as a warm season crop in most regions, but performs best during the cooler, drier months in tropical zones where it may prefer some shade in summer conditions
Sow seeds direct or in punnets in winter/ cooler times in tropics and anytime in milder climates. Space plants 10cms apart in rows 20cms wide.
Harvest leaves after 35 days and after 60 days for the root.
