Strawberry White Soul - 40 Seeds
Fragaria vesca
White Soul is a distinctive alpine strawberry that yields small, creamy-white fruits with a rich aroma and sweet, tropical flavour. Many describe the taste as a mix of pineapple and strawberry. Unlike common red strawberries, the fruits are less likely to attract birds, making it simpler to harvest your crop without netting.
Growth Habit
White Soul is an everbearing alpine variety. Plants stay compact, around 15–20 cm tall, and do not send out runners like common strawberries. Instead, they form neat clumps that fruit continuously through the warmer months once established.
How to Grow
-
Sowing depth: Surface sow and lightly press seeds into the soil. Do not cover, as the strawberry seed needs light to germinate.
-
Germination: 14–28 days at 18–22 °C. Germination can be slow and uneven, so patience is important.
-
Plant spacing: 20–25 cm apart.
-
Row spacing: 30–40 cm between rows.
-
Soil type: Well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter. Slightly acidic (pH 5.5–6.5) is ideal.
-
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during germination and fruiting. Avoid waterlogging.
-
Fertiliser: Apply a balanced fertiliser or liquid seaweed regularly through the growing season.
Companion Planting
-
Good companions: spinach, lettuce, borage.
-
Avoid: members of the cabbage family, which compete for nutrients.
Harvest
-
Plants begin fruiting about 4–5 months after sowing.
-
Harvest fruits when they are fully white with golden seeds and give off a strong fragrance.
-
Picking regularly encourages more fruit to form.
