Soil Regenerator - 10 Species Cover Crop Blend
NOT to WA & TAS
Pisum sativum, Fagopyrum esculentum, Helianthus annuus, Glycine max, R. sativus var. longipinnatus, Brassica oleracea var. italica, Trigonella foenum-graecum, Trifolium pratense, Medicago sativa, Vigna radiata
Suitable for: Home gardeners, Regenerative farmers, market gardeners, permaculture, no-dig gardeners, new block preparation, degraded soil rehabilitation, council land restoration
Sowing rate: Garden beds: 60–100 g/sqm (1 kg covers 10–15 sqm). Market garden: 60–80 kg/ha. Paddock rehabilitation: 50–70 kg/ha.
Season: Spring (Sep–Nov) or early autumn (Mar–Apr), soil temp 12–25°C. Spring sowing activates warm-season species (soybean, mung, buckwheat, sunflower); autumn favours cool-season species (pea, clover, brassicas).
Contains: Blue Pea, Buckwheat, Sunflower, Soybean, Daikon Radish, Broccoli, Fenugreek, Red Clover, Alfalfa, Mung Bean.
Inspired by the latest CSIRO multi-species cover crop research, our Soil Regenerator combines 10 diverse species across three functional groups - legumes, brassicas, and broadleaves - to create the most comprehensive soil-building product available in Australia.
This cereal-free formula is designed for growers who need to keep wheat, barley, and oats separate from their soil-building rotation. Buckwheat and sunflower replace the carbon-building and weed-suppression roles previously filled by cereals. Buckwheat provides the fastest canopy closure of any cover crop (4–6 weeks), smothering weeds through shading. Sunflower delivers deep taproot structure, mycorrhizal network building, and high-carbon biomass.
The legume team (field pea, soybean, fenugreek, clover, alfalfa, mung bean) provides nitrogen fixation at multiple root depths and seasons. The brassica squad (daikon radish, broccoli) drills through compacted layers and produces glucosinolates that suppress soil-borne pathogens when incorporated.
CSIRO research demonstrates that multi-species mixes with 3 or more species outperform single-species cover crops in improving soil health, microbial diversity, and subsequent crop yields.
Sowing Instructions
1. Best sown in spring (Sep–Nov) or early autumn (Mar–Apr) when soil temperature is 12–25°C.
2. Prepare with minimal tillage - a light rake or single rotary hoe pass.
3. Garden beds: broadcast at 60–100 g/sqm and rake to 2–3 cm depth.
4. Paddocks/market gardens: sow at 50–80 kg/ha. Can be broadcast or drilled.
5. Water in well. Maintain moisture for 14 days as germination is staggered across 10 species.
6. Buckwheat emerges first (3–5 days), legumes (5–10 days), brassicas (7–14 days).
7. Allow to grow 10–16 weeks. For biofumigation benefit, incorporate at early brassica flowering.
8. Slash/mow, incorporate into top 15 cm. Water heavily to activate brassica glucosinolate fumigation.
9. Wait 3–4 weeks before planting. Soil will be visibly darker, crumblier, and more alive with worm activity.
