Seed packets as settlement gifts

Welcome Home seed packet with a watercolour cottage, Welcome home in script and the agent's name and agency on a drawn key tag

A settlement gift seed packet is a 90 x 145 mm envelope, printed front and back, with your agency's name and a welcome-home line on the front and a sealed satchel of seed inside. The minimum is 50 packets of one design. 100 colour packets with Standard seed cost $2.99 each, or $312.95 with standard postage to any state, GST included. Leave the buyer's name off and one design serves every settlement.

Why agents give a gift at settlement

Settlement is when the sale completes and ownership passes to the buyer, and the keys are usually handed over the same day. It is often the agent's last contact with the buyer in the sale. A small gift marks the handover and says thank you. A seed packet is easy to hand over with the keys, costs a few dollars, and gives the buyer something to sow in the new garden. Your agency's name goes with it into the house.

What to put on the packet

The front carries a headline, your agency's name and a short message. Our Welcome Home design (D-010) has a watercolour cottage, "Welcome home" in script, and the agent's name and agency on a drawn key tag. The occasion comes with three headlines:

  • "Welcome home"
  • "Little seeds, a lot of love"
  • "Something for the new garden"

The ready-written messages are short and practical, for example: "Every house needs one thing growing in it by the end of the first month. Here is the first thing. Sunny spot, 3 mm deep, water it in."

The back of the envelope carries the seed and its botanical name, growing notes where we have them and a line of your own, such as "From [agent], [agency]." A short line saying Happy Valley Seeds packed the seed, with a small QR code to our website, sits at the foot, or on the flap if you would rather keep the back for your words.

For your agency's logo, more than 70 of our finished designs have a logo box: upload a PNG or JPG in the designer and it prints at no extra cost. If you would rather we design a packet around your branding, it is $75 with two rounds of changes, or free from 500 packets.

Leave the buyer's name off. Every packet of a design is printed the same, so a line that names the agent or the agency suits every settlement, and one run can serve several sales. Keep the packets somewhere cool, dry and dark between sales; heat and damp shorten a seed's life.

Which seeds suit a new garden

The buyers may not have planned the garden yet, so the seed should be easy to sow and suit the space: Sunflower Sunbird needs room for a tall plant. All three below are Standard seed, included in the price.

Seed Why it suits Sowing
Californian poppy Usually up in 10 to 14 days in a sunny spot kept moist; the flowers open in the sun and close at night Spring in cool climates, autumn to winter in warm ones; 3 mm deep
Sunflower Sunbird Drought tolerant and grows to 2 to 2.5 m, with large striped seeds the birds love Spring, in full sun
Swan River daisy An Australian native that can be sent to every state Early spring, on the surface of moist seed mix

Californian poppy is the default for the settlement occasion because it is easy to sow and usually quick to come up. It self-seeds freely and has naturalised in parts of Australia, so it belongs in a garden bed, not next to bushland. The Welcome Home design takes any of the three.

Reordering

We keep your design for 90 days after dispatch. To order the same packets again, email support@happyvalleyseeds.com.au with your order number and the quantity, and we send a proof to check before anything is printed. After that, you can set the same design up again in the designer with its code, such as D-010 for Welcome Home. You pay the current price on the day you reorder.
