Our checkout is run by Shopify, and it comes with a built-in memory called Shop Pay. Shop Pay saves your address and card the first time you buy from any Shopify store, then tries to fill everything in for you next time. When it fills in the right things, it is quick. When it fills in an old address, or hides the payment option you wanted, it is maddening. This page shows exactly where to tap to take back control, with pictures from a phone, a tablet and a computer.

The short version

  1. Wrong address showing? In the Delivery section, tap the address line and choose Use a different address, or just retype the fields if they are open. Details
  2. Want a different postage option? It is in the Shipping method list, which only appears once your address is complete. Details
  3. Want PayPal? It lives under Payment in the normal checkout form. It is never offered inside the purple Shop Pay screen. Details
  4. Do not want Shop Pay at all? Tap Not now next to "Save my information for a faster checkout" before you pay. Details
  5. Still stuck? Email us the details and we will set the order up for you. Details

First, which screen are you on?

There are two checkouts, and the fix depends on which one you are looking at.

  • The normal Happy Valley Seeds checkout. White page, our logo top left, sections headed Contact, Delivery, Shipping method and Payment, with a brown Pay now button at the bottom. Everything on this page is done here. At the very top sit three express buttons (purple shop, yellow PayPal, black G Pay) and the word OR. The form below OR is the normal checkout.
  • The Shop Pay screen. It opens when you tap the purple shop button, or when Shop recognises you and asks for a 6-digit code sent by text message or email. It starts with a Sign in box and a purple Continue with shop button, and once you are signed in it fills everything from the details you saved with Shop. This screen belongs to Shopify, not to us. It only knows the addresses and cards you saved with Shop, and it cannot offer PayPal. You are never stuck in it: tap Back (under the sign-in box) or close the window, and you land back on the normal checkout with your cart intact.

On a computer: the normal checkout. The express buttons are outlined in red. The form below "OR" is where the rest of this page happens.

Change your delivery address

If the address fields are open (nobody is signed in)

  1. Scroll to the Delivery section.
  2. Tap into each field and type the new details: street address, suburb, state, postcode. Check the unit number and the postcode twice; autofill loves to keep an old postcode.
  3. Your phone or browser may offer to autofill an old address. Ignore the suggestion and keep typing, or tap the field again and delete what it put in.
  4. The Shipping method list refreshes for the new address a second or two later.

On a computer: the address fields, outlined in red.

On a tablet: the same fields, one under the other.

On a phone: scroll down to Delivery and type into each box.

If an address is already filled in and you cannot type over it

That means you are signed in, either to Shop Pay or to your Happy Valley Seeds account, and the checkout is showing a saved address as a single line with a small arrow.

  1. Tap that address line. A list of your saved addresses opens.
  2. Pick the right one, or choose Use a different address and type the new details.
  3. Check the Shipping method and the total before you pay; both update for the new address.

If you are in the purple Shop Pay screen, tap the address it is showing to switch to another saved address or add a new one. If that fights you, close the Shop Pay screen and use the normal form above instead.

Already paid with the wrong address? Email support@happyvalleyseeds.com.au straight away with your order number and the full new address, including any unit number and the postcode. Our labels print fast, so the sooner we hear, the better. More in our FAQ.

Choose a different shipping method

The Shipping method list sits between Delivery and Payment. Until your address is complete it just says "Enter your shipping address to view available shipping methods", which is the number one reason people think the options are missing. Finish the address and the list appears.

  1. Complete the Delivery address (street, suburb, state, postcode).
  2. Wait a moment for the Shipping method list to load. The cheapest option is selected for you.
  3. Tap the circle next to the option you want, for example Economy tracked, Signature on Delivery or Express. The shipping line in your total updates immediately.

The options and prices depend on where you live and what is in the cart. A parcel of potatoes gets different options from an envelope of seed packets. Free standard shipping, when it applies, appears in this same list. See Shipping information for the full rundown, or how to see your shipping cost before you pay if you only want to check the price.

On a computer: the shipping method list, outlined in red, after the address has been filled in.

Checkout on a computer with the address filled in. The Shipping method list is outlined in red, showing Economy untracked, Economy tracked, Economy Signature on Delivery and two Express options with prices.

On a tablet: tap the circle beside the option you want.

On a phone: the list appears under Delivery once the address is complete.

In the purple Shop Pay screen the delivery options are listed too, under the address. Tap the one you want there, or close Shop Pay and choose it in the normal form.

Pay with PayPal, or with a card that is not saved to Shop Pay

Shop Pay only ever offers the cards you saved with Shop. Shopify does not allow PayPal inside Shop Pay, in any country. So if you want PayPal, or you want to type in a different card, you need the normal checkout form.

  1. If you are in the purple Shop Pay screen, close it. If your email is already filled in on the normal checkout with a Log out link beside it, tap Log out. Your cart stays put.
  2. Scroll to Payment.
  3. Tap PayPal. The box expands and says "You'll be redirected to PayPal to complete your purchase". A Billing address choice appears underneath; leave it on "Same as shipping address" unless your PayPal account is registered elsewhere.
  4. Tap Pay now. PayPal opens, you log in there, approve the payment, and you are brought back to our order confirmation.

Prefer to type a card? Choose Credit card instead of PayPal and fill in the card number, expiry, security code and name on card. The yellow PayPal button at the very top of the checkout is a shortcut to the same PayPal flow, and it works even before you have typed an address.

On a computer: PayPal selected under Payment, outlined in red.

Checkout on a computer. In the Payment section the PayPal option is selected and outlined in red, with the message: You'll be redirected to PayPal to complete your purchase.

On a tablet: tap the PayPal row, then Pay now.

On a phone: PayPal sits directly under the Credit card option.

Stop Shop Pay from taking over

Before you pay: tap "Not now"

Just above the Pay now button there is a small block headed Save my information for a faster checkout, with a Not now link on the right. The fine print says that by paying you agree to create a Shop account. If you do not want one, tap Not now before you pay. Nothing is saved, no account is created, and next time you get the plain form again.

On a computer: the "Save my information" block with Not now, outlined in red. It sits just above Pay now.

On a phone: same block, just above the total and Pay now.

If a 6-digit code request pops up

Shop recognised your email or phone from a previous purchase and wants to sign you in. You do not have to. Close the pop-up (the X) or leave the code blank and carry on with the normal form as a guest. Typing the code signs you into Shop Pay, which is fine if your saved details are current, and annoying if they are not.

Switch it off for good

Shop Pay is a Shopify service and we cannot turn it off for one customer from our end, but you can opt yourself out in a minute:

  1. Go to shop.app/pay/phone-optout.
  2. Enter the mobile number you used with Shop Pay and submit the request.

Shop then deletes your phone number and saved details from Shop Pay, and every Shopify store, ours included, shows you the plain checkout from then on. If you also want the whole Shop account gone, shop.app/opt-out does that. Both links are Shopify's, and we have no say over what happens on them.

Still stuck? We will do it for you

Email support@happyvalleyseeds.com.au and tell us:

  • the full delivery address you want, including unit number and postcode,
  • which shipping option you would like (or just "cheapest"),
  • how you would like to pay (card, PayPal or bank transfer),
  • and what is in your cart, if the order has not gone through yet.

We will reply with a checkout link that already has the right address and shipping on it, or an invoice you can pay directly. If the order has already gone through, we will correct it before it is packed. A real person answers, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm NSW time. More contact options.

And then, with the paperwork behind you, go and plant something. That is the whole point of the exercise.
