Description

Yam Bean (Jicama)  - 10 Seeds

Open-pollinated seeds

(Pachyrhizus erosus)

Common Names: Jicama has a variety of common names, including climbing yam bean; Mexican potato; Mexican Water Chestnut; Mexican turnip; seng kuang (Malay); di gwa (Chinese); kuzuimo (Japan); sinkamas (Filipino); man kaeo (Thai); sankalu (Hindi).

It is of a native Mexican large vine, although the name most commonly refers to the plant's edible tuberous root. It’s the climbing plant from Central America, with deliciously sweet, a crisp tuber that can be eaten raw or cooked where flowers are removed, as seeds are toxic.

Care: Sow the seeds in spring in the subtropics; sow all year in the tropics; in warm temperate areas, do not sow before early summer as it requires very warm soil to germinate. Suitable for temperate, subtropical and tropical areas.

The seed propagation instruction is available on the seed packet.
