Custom printed seed packets, personalised online

Custom printed seed packets are personalised 90 x 145 mm white envelopes, printed and filled with Happy Valley Seeds seed in Sydney. You design them online, see the front and back at full size, and pay from $1.89 a packet in colour or $1.49 in black at 1,000 packets, or from $3.49 at the 50-packet minimum. Up to 250 packets are dispatched within two business days of your approved proof.

Inside each packet is a sealed satchel printed with the variety, the botanical name and the sowing notes, so the packet itself carries only your words. Standard seed is included; Premium seed is 50 cents more a packet.

How it works

  1. Pick the occasion and a design

Twenty-four occasions and seven designs. Each occasion comes with three headlines and three messages you can use as they are or change.

  2. Fill it in and see the proof

Type the names, the date and the message, upload a logo if you have one, and choose the seed, colour or black print and the quantity. The front and back appear at full size as you type.

  3. Pay, or ask for a quote

Check the proof, tick the three boxes and pay by card. Schools, universities, councils and charities can order on a purchase order with 15-day terms.

  4. We print, fill, seal and post

We print exactly what you approved, put a sealed seed satchel in every packet and post the order within the times below.

Delivery is on top of production and depends on Australia Post. Western Australia and Tasmania add about a week for state inspection; WA orders are lodged on Fridays, travel in two legs and cannot go by Express Post. Tell us your event date and the personaliser shows the earliest dispatch date before you pay.

Questions

What is the minimum order?

Fifty packets of one design. You can put up to three designs on one order, and each design needs its own 50 or more.

How much does a custom seed packet cost?

From $3.49 a packet for 50 in colour with Standard seed, down to $1.89 at 1,000, or $1.49 in black. The price covers the printed envelope, the seed satchel, filling, sealing and GST. Premium seed adds 50 cents a packet, and postage is charged by packet count.

Do the prices include GST?

Yes, every price includes GST. The tax invoice shows the GST, our ABN 63 634 537 492 and, for a purchase order, your order number.

Can I order fewer than 50 packets?

No, 50 packets of a design is the smallest order we print. To see your design in hand before a larger order, the sample pack is five printed envelopes for a flat $15, postage included.

Is the price lower for larger orders?

Yes, in five steps: 50 to 99, 100 to 249, 250 to 499, 500 to 999 and 1,000 to 2,499 packets. In colour with Standard seed the price goes $3.49, $2.99, $2.49, $2.19 and $1.89 a packet. For 2,500 or more, ask for a quote.

Can I see the full price before I order?

Yes. The personaliser shows the packet price, the postage and the total before you pay, and updates them as you change the quantity, the print or the seed. For 2,500 packets or more, or more than three designs, ask for a quote and we reply within one business day.

Can I get a printed sample first?

Yes. The sample pack is five envelopes printed with your design for a flat $15, postage included. Order it from the personaliser once the design is ready.

Can I use my own logo or artwork?

Yes. Upload a logo as an SVG, PNG or JPG of up to 20 MB: Crest and Line places it in a 21 mm roundel on the front, and the other designs place it on the back. If you have finished artwork for the whole packet, our full custom design service ($75, two revisions) lays it out on the 90 x 145 mm envelope within the printer's rules.

Can you design the packet for me?

Yes, in three ways. The templates and ready-written lines are free. We lay out your logo on a template for $30, or at no charge from 100 packets, and a full custom design with two revisions is $75, or at no charge from 500 packets. The logo layout proof comes by email within one business day of your order, and the first full custom proof within two.

What files and artwork specifications do you need?

An SVG is best for a logo; a PNG or JPG works if it is 300 dpi at the printed size, up to 20 MB. One colour prints most cleanly, because the printer suits line art and type rather than large solid areas. Everything sits inside a 6 mm margin, so nothing touches the edge.

Do you print the front and the back?

Yes, both sides are printed and both are in the price. The front carries your headline and message; the back carries your name or organisation, the seed and its botanical name, an optional how-to-grow block and a line of your own. The flap stays blank unless you switch off the small Happy Valley Seeds mark on the back; then one line on the flap says the seed was packed by us and is for sowing only.

Can I put names and a date on the packets?

Yes. Names, dates and your message go into the template's text fields, and the full-size proof updates as you type. A headline takes up to 28 characters a line over two lines. How long a message can be depends on the design, and the personaliser shows the limit for each: Hairline Botanical with a two-line headline holds about 35 words.

Can I order more than one design?

Up to three designs on one order, each of 50 packets or more and each priced by its own quantity. For four or more designs, ask for a quote.

Will I see a proof before you print?

Yes, straight away and free: the personaliser draws the front and back at the real size, 90 x 145 mm, as you type. What you approve is what we print, so check spelling, names and dates first; errors visible on an approved proof are not a fault in the goods.

How long does production take?

We dispatch within 2 business days for up to 250 packets, 4 business days for 251 to 1,000 and 7 business days for 1,001 to 2,500, counted from your approved proof and payment. Australia Post delivery is on top, and Western Australia and Tasmania add about a week.

Will every seed come up?

Not every seed germinates, and results depend on when, where and how the seed is sown after it leaves us. Each satchel carries the variety, the lot and the sowing notes, and our Returns, Refunds and Consumer Guarantees Policy explains how we assess a germination claim.

How long do the seeds last?

Each satchel is printed with a sow-before date, and the seed is best sown before then.

How should the packets be stored before sowing?

Somewhere cool, dry and dark, with the seed left in its sealed satchel until sowing day. A drawer or cupboard away from the oven and the kettle suits; heat and damp shorten a seed's life.

Will the seeds grow where I live?

Every variety on the custom menu is one we sell for Australian gardens, and the satchel inside says when and how to sow it. For guests spread across several climates, an easy seed such as sunflower, Californian poppy or basil gives the most people a good result.

Can the packets be recycled?

The white envelope is recyclable with paper once the seed satchel is removed. The satchel is a foil laminate: it is not recyclable and goes in general waste.

What is the difference between a seed packet and seed paper?

A seed packet is an envelope with a sealed satchel of seed inside: you open it and sow the seed. Seed paper has seed pressed into the paper and is planted whole. We make packets only, and every satchel is labelled with its variety and botanical name.

Can seed packets be sent to every state?

All but two of our varieties can: cherry tomato cannot go to Western Australia and dwarf sugar snap pea cannot go to Tasmania. The personaliser removes them when you choose those states. We do not send seed overseas.

Which seeds can I choose?

There are 25 varieties. Standard seed, included in the price: basil, dill, coriander, parsley, chives, garlic chives, carrot, lettuce, rocket, cabbage, kale, Californian poppy, Shirley poppy, Flanders poppy, candytuft, Livingstone daisy, baby's breath, Swan River daisy, nigella, everlasting daisy and sunflower. Premium seed, 50 cents a packet more: forget-me-not, lavender, dwarf sugar snap pea and cherry tomato. Other varieties are by quote.

Do you deliver Australia-wide, and what does postage cost?

Yes, to every state and territory, and only within Australia. Postage is by packet count at Australia Post's published prices: standard post for up to 100 packets is $16.00 to most addresses, and the personaliser shows your exact postage before you pay. Express Post is available everywhere except Western Australia, and postage to WA and Tasmania includes the $6 and $3 inspection fees.

What size are the packets?

90 x 145 mm: a white wallet envelope with the flap along one long side. That is larger than the 70 x 120 mm and 90 x 60 mm seed envelopes sold elsewhere, which leaves room for a message on the front and your details on the back. How many words fit depends on the design, and the personaliser shows the limit for each.

Can I track my order, and can you rush it for an event?

Yes to tracking: the dispatch email carries the Australia Post tracking number. There is no rush service, but the personaliser shows the earliest dispatch date before you pay, and if you tell us your event date we say so before payment if we cannot meet it.

The fine print

What you agree to when you order, in plain words. These notes sit alongside our Terms of Service, Returns, Refunds and Consumer Guarantees Policy, Shipping Policy and Privacy Policy, which form part of every order.

Your artwork

Your artwork stays yours. You keep all rights in the words, images, logos and designs you type into or upload to the personaliser. By ordering, you confirm that you own them or have a licence that lets them be printed on seed packets for your purpose, and that printing them will not infringe anyone's copyright, trade mark or other rights. You give us permission to store, reproduce and print them only to proof, produce, deliver and, if needed, reprint your order. We do not check ownership or licences, and we never use your artwork for anything else without your written permission.

Logos, brands and people. Business, school, council and charity logos may be used only by the organisation that owns them or someone it has authorised. If your design shows an identifiable person, you confirm that they (or a parent or guardian for a child) have agreed to appear on the packets, and that you own or are licensed to use the photograph; commissioned wedding and portrait photographs usually belong to you, but check your photographer's contract.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. If your artwork is, or is presented as, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander art, you confirm it was created by, or is used with the free, prior and informed consent of, the artist or community, and you will include the attribution they ask for. We do not print generic "Aboriginal-style" clip art, and we will not print "authentic" or "hand-painted" unless you can back it up.

If someone makes a claim. If a third party claims your artwork infringes their rights or breaks the law, you agree to cover our reasonable costs and losses from that claim, except to the extent we caused or contributed to it. Nothing here limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

What we will not print

We may decline to print, or pause, an order whose artwork we reasonably think is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, hateful or discriminatory, invades someone's privacy, misleads people about who made or endorsed the packet, or uses a logo, brand, character or image you are not allowed to use. If we decline, we will tell you why and refund everything you have paid for that order. Our decision has to be reasonable, and we will hear you out if you think we have it wrong.

Check your proof

We print exactly what you approve. Before anything is printed you will see the front and back of the packet at full size on screen (and as a PDF if you ask). Check spelling, names, dates, the layout and how sharp your logo looks. Once you approve the proof we cannot change it, and errors that were visible on the approved proof (typos, wrong dates, blurry images, cut-off text, colours as shown) are not a fault in the goods. Reprinting to fix an approved error is charged at the per-packet price for the reprint quantity, with no design fee.

Our mistakes are ours. If the packets you receive do not match the proof you approved, are misprinted, damaged, on the wrong envelope, or hold the wrong seed, that is on us and you are entitled to a remedy under the Australian Consumer Law: see our Returns, Refunds and Consumer Guarantees Policy.

Colour and print

Your screen shows colour as light; we print with toner on uncoated white paper, so printed colours differ from the screen and can vary a little from batch to batch. Our printer is built for line art and type, not for large solid blocks: big areas of dark colour can print unevenly, so the templates keep fills small and leave a 6 mm unprinted margin around the edge. These are characteristics of the product, not defects. If you need to see the real thing first, order a sample pack (five printed envelopes, $15 posted).

Production time and delivery

Production. Production starts when you have approved the proof and we have your payment (or an approved purchase order from a school, university, council or registered charity). We then dispatch within: 2 business days for up to 250 packets; 4 business days for 251 to 1,000; 7 business days for 1,001 to 2,500; larger runs as quoted. Reprints and orders with a design service take the same times from the day you approve the final proof.

Delivery. Delivery time is on top of production and depends on Australia Post; postage is charged at the tiers shown in the personaliser, standard or express. Western Australia and Tasmania orders go through state biosecurity inspection: allow an extra week, and note that WA orders travel in two legs (to Quarantine WA in Perth, then on to you) and cannot go by Express Post. For weddings, funerals and dated events, tell us the date in the order notes; if we cannot meet it we will say so before you pay, and the personaliser shows the earliest dispatch date before you check out.

Where we can send seed

Biosecurity note. Seed is inspected under state plant-quarantine law before it reaches you.

  • Western Australia: we send only species listed as permitted on the WA Organism List. We lodge Western Australian orders on Fridays; packets are inspected by Quarantine WA in Perth, a WA quarantine fee of $6 applies, and delivery takes about a week longer. Cherry tomato needs certification we do not yet hold, so it is removed from your options when your delivery address is in WA.
  • Tasmania: every Tasmanian order is notified to Biosecurity Tasmania in advance and marked "Attention Biosecurity Tasmania". A TAS biosecurity fee of $3 applies and delivery takes about a week longer. Dwarf sugar snap pea cannot be sent to Tasmania and is removed from your options when your delivery address is in TAS.
  • Northern Territory and South Australia: no extra fee, paperwork or exclusions for anything in our custom packet range.
  • Every packet carries the full botanical name of its seed on the satchel inside, and seed is sold for home-garden sowing only. If a species you chose cannot go to your state we will remove it and refund it, or ask you to choose another; anything that applies to you as the receiver in your state is yours to meet.
Australia only

We deliver within Australia only. Seed for sowing is an export-controlled product: nearly every country requires an Australian Government phytosanitary certificate and an import permit held by the receiver, which is not practical for gift packets. We do not provide phytosanitary certificates and we cannot send custom packets overseas, including to New Zealand.

The details and files you upload

We collect the names, dates, messages, logos and images you enter only to design, proof, print and deliver your packets and to answer your enquiry. They are stored on our design and print systems and with our web-store provider, Shopify, and are seen only by the staff who handle your order. We keep print files and design copies for 90 days after dispatch so that we can reprint or reorder for you; files you upload are stored with your order record in our web store; order and invoice records are kept as tax and consumer law require. We never use your artwork or photos in our own marketing without your written permission, and you can ask about your information at support@happyvalleyseeds.com.au. Our Privacy Policy has the rest.

Seed is for sowing only

Our seed is supplied for sowing only. It is not food and must not be eaten or fed to animals. None of the seed in our custom packets is treated with a fungicide or insecticide dressing; if we ever supply a treated line, its seed is coloured and its satchel carries a red CAUTION statement. Wash your hands after handling seed and keep packets away from small children.

Schools, councils, universities and charities

We accept purchase orders from government, education, council and registered charity buyers on invoice. Production starts when we have the purchase order and the approved proof; payment is due 15 days from the invoice date on the tax invoice, which shows our ABN, your organisation's name and ABN, and your purchase order number. Prices include GST (ex-GST pricing appears only on business quotes). A certificate of currency and supplier-onboarding details are available on request. Consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law apply to business purchases of these goods.
