CHILLI Bishops Crown - 10 Seeds
The Bishops Crown chilli is an amazing chilli from Barbados. They are also known as ‘Fryers Hat’ or ‘Monk’s Hat’.
The plant grows well in a pot to 1.2 metre high. The branches were dropping from the weight of the fruit. It produces hundreds of three-sided peppers which resemble a Bishop’s Crown. Size wise the pods are 3-4 cm long and 5-7 cm wide and mature from light green, to orange, to red.
They are excellent stuffed with cheese and grilled, in salads, on top of cheese or just as a healthy snack.
All in all, it is one of the best producing chillies, it looks stunning and the pods taste sweet and fruity. We can only recommend growing this great chilli – must for all home gardeners.
Mature chili reach between 5,000 and 30,000 Scoville. Their pods, in the shape of a Catholic bishop’s cap, are rather mild than medium-hot. How much the pods burn depends on the plant, the location and the growing conditions. Compared to Jalapeños, Bishops Crown Chillies usually burn much less in the mouth. But be careful: this can vary from fruit to fruit. In our opinion, the degree of sharpness is 3 - 5.
In addition to the pleasant spiciness, the sweet and fruity taste is convincing. A sour paprika aroma makes Bishops Crown Chili perfect for seasoning vegetables and salads.
Care & Growing Instructions: Germination temperature is between 20°C and 28°C (germination period: 8-21 days); it is therefore recommended to use a greenhouse and a heating mat. The plants need fresh, well-fertilised, permeable soil, and do not tolerate waterlogging. They should be planted in a sunny, protected place with at least 6 hours of sunlight - preferably more. Put the plants outside approx. 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost.
