Description

Tulip Margarita (Pack of 3 Bulbs)

Tulipa Margarita

Please Note: These bulbs cannot be shipped to Western Australia or Tasmania due to biosecurity restrictions.

Romantic, lush, and architecturally beautiful, Tulip Margarita is a double early tulip with a genuinely distinctive character. This pack contains 3 premium Tulipa Margarita bulbs, each producing a full, multi-petalled bloom in warm rose-pink with a soft peachy-white base, where the outer petals are delicately fringed with a fine, feathery edge that gives each flower a painterly, decorative quality. The combination of the full double form and the fringed petal texture makes Margarita one of the most ornate and visually complex tulips available for home garden planting, and the short, sturdy stems of 30 to 40 cm make it particularly well suited to pots, windowsills, and sheltered formal beds where the intricate flowers can be appreciated up close.

Sourced from Trenton Cottage (https://trentondev.com), Margarita is a reliable early-season performer in Australian conditions, blooming in advance of most mid and late tulip varieties.

Planting Instructions

Plant tulip bulbs in late autumn between May and June. Margarita's compact height makes it an excellent container tulip. Plant 12 to 15 cm deep in the garden, or 10 to 12 cm deep in pots with excellent drainage. Flat base down, pointed end up, spacing 10 to 12 cm apart. In subtropical and warmer temperate regions, pre-chill bulbs at 4 to 7 degrees Celsius for 6 to 8 weeks before planting. Keep away from apples and other fruit during refrigeration.

Watering and Care

Water in after planting and allow rainfall to provide moisture through winter. Maintain good drainage at all times. Double early tulips such as Margarita are stocky and wind-resistant but benefit from a sheltered position to protect the intricate blooms from heavy spring rain. Treat as annual plants in most Australian conditions for best ongoing results.

Pruning Advice

Margarita is a highly decorative cut flower, with the fringed double blooms being particularly sought after for spring wedding and event arrangements. Cut in the morning before buds have fully opened. Remove spent flowers from garden plants promptly. Clear yellowed foliage once fully died back.

Climate Zone Guide

Cool and Alpine (ACT, VIC Highlands, NSW Tablelands): Excellent. Double early tulips are among the most dependable performers in cold Australian regions.

Temperate (Melbourne, Adelaide, coastal NSW): Good results with pre-chilling for 4 to 6 weeks in warmer temperate areas.

Subtropical (Brisbane, coastal QLD): Pre-chill for 6 to 8 weeks. Treat as annuals.

Tropical and Arid (Darwin, Far North QLD): Not recommended without artificial cold treatment.

Important Warnings

All parts of the Tulip plant are toxic to humans and animals if ingested. Bulbs are the most toxic part. Keep all tulip material away from children and pets. Wear gloves when handling to avoid skin irritation. Wash your hands thoroughly after planting. Seek medical or veterinary advice immediately if ingestion is suspected.
