Description
Grab Bag - Tulip World's Favourite (Pack of 16 Bulbs) (Tulipa hybrid, mixed varieties)
Please Note: These bulbs cannot be shipped to Western Australia or Tasmania due to biosecurity restrictions.
Part lucky dip, part curated collection, the Tulip World's Favourite Grab Bag is one of the most exciting ways to fill a spring garden with colour. This pack contains 16 premium tulip bulbs drawn from a rotating selection of the world's most beloved and consistently popular varieties - the classics that florists, home gardeners, and horticulturalists have returned to season after season for good reason. Each pack is hand-assembled from current top-performing stock, meaning the exact varieties inside will vary from season to season and pack to pack, but every bulb in the bag meets the same high standard: strong stems, vivid colour, generous bloom size, and reliable performance in Australian conditions.
Varieties within the grab bag are selected from the world's favourite tulip groups - Triumph, Darwin hybrid, single late, and double - spanning colours from classic scarlet and golden yellow through to soft pink, cream, deep purple, and vibrant orange. The element of surprise is part of the charm: gardeners who plant the Tulip World's Favourite Grab Bag are guaranteed a beautiful spring display, but the exact combination of colours and forms is a discovery that unfolds in the garden.

Planting Instructions
Plant tulip bulbs in late autumn between May and June for a spring display. Choose a full sun position with excellent drainage and fertile soil. Plant each bulb 15 to 20 cm deep with the flat base facing down and the pointed tip upward, spacing 10 to 15 cm apart. For the most naturalistic effect with a mixed grab bag, scatter all 16 bulbs loosely across the planting area and plant each where it lands - this creates an informal, garden-designer drift rather than a regimented row. In subtropical and warmer temperate regions (Brisbane and above), pre-chill bulbs at 4 to 7 degrees Celsius for 6 to 8 weeks before planting. Keep refrigerated bulbs well away from apples and other ethylene-producing fruit, as this gas destroys the flower embryo inside the bulb. Water well after planting.
Watering and Care
Water in after planting and allow natural rainfall to provide moisture through the cooler months. Avoid waterlogged conditions at all times, as tulip bulbs are highly susceptible to fungal rot in persistently wet soil. A balanced bulb fertiliser applied at planting time supports strong stem and flower development across all varieties in the grab bag. Tulips in Australia are best treated as annual or biennial plants; while some varieties may return, performance typically declines from the second season onward, and most Australian gardeners replant with fresh bulbs each year for the most reliable and vibrant results.
Note: When handling tulip bulbs, wear gloves. The fine hairs on the outer skin of tulip bulbs can cause a mild skin irritation known as tulip fingers in sensitive individuals. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling.
Pruning Advice
The World's Favourite Grab Bag provides an excellent mixed cut-flower harvest throughout the blooming season, with different varieties coming into flower at slightly staggered intervals, creating an extended picking window. Cut stems in the morning when buds are just beginning to show colour for maximum vase life of 10 to 14 days. Flowers will continue to open and develop beautifully after cutting. Remove spent flowers from garden plants promptly to keep the planting looking tidy. As tulips are treated as annual plants in most Australian conditions, foliage can be cleared once it has fully yellowed and collapsed naturally.
Climate Zone Guide
Cool and Alpine (ACT, VIC Highlands, NSW Tablelands): Outstanding. Natural cold winters provide the deep dormancy all tulip varieties require for tall stems and vivid, well-formed blooms. The grab bag format works particularly well in cool climates where virtually all tulip groups perform reliably.
Temperate (Melbourne, Adelaide, coastal NSW): Very good. The majority of varieties in the grab bag will perform well in temperate Australian conditions. Pre-chill the entire pack for 4 to 6 weeks in warmer temperate areas to ensure consistent flowering across all varieties.
Subtropical (Brisbane, coastal QLD): Achievable with diligent pre-chilling for 6 to 8 weeks at 4 to 7 degrees Celsius for all bulbs. Treat as annuals. Select the sunniest, best-drained position available. The mixed nature of the grab bag means some varieties will perform better than others in subtropical conditions.
Tropical and Arid (Darwin, Far North QLD): Not recommended for outdoor planting without sustained artificial cold treatment. Tulips require a defined cold dormancy period to initiate flowering reliably.
Important Warnings
All parts of the Tulip plant are toxic if ingested by humans and animals. The bulbs are the most toxic part and must never be confused with edible bulbs such as onions or shallots. Keep all tulip material - bulbs, stems, leaves, and flowers - away from children and pets at all times. Wear gloves when handling bulbs to avoid tulip fingers, a mild skin irritation caused by calcium oxalate crystals in the outer bulb skin. Wash hands thoroughly after handling and planting. Seek immediate medical or veterinary advice if ingestion is suspected.
